The British are “part-time Europeans” who never wanted to share all policies decided by the European Union, Jean-Claude Juncker said Thursday.
“The British since the very beginning were part-time Europeans. What we need are full-time Europeans,” the ongoing European Commission president told Euronews in an interview.
“The British were told for more than 40 years that they were in but they didn’t want to share all the policies that have been decided,” he added.
Juncker said that Brexit would be a “lose-lose situation” for both the U.K. and the EU and argued that it had been a “mistake” to put the question of Brexit to a referendum.
Nevertheless, he said he still believes that Britain wishes to leave the bloc, despite all the political chaos rattling the country at the moment.
